Polar Nights and the Milky Way

Hello dear nature lovers,

It's been a long time since I last shared a Friday picture. Admittedly, I didn't have any recent photos to share.

However, last weekend there was a special event that I didn't have on my radar (and unfortunately missed). Some of you probably saw and captured the Northern Lights shining over Germany. This occurred from Friday to Saturday.

My friend Tobi asked me on Saturday if I wanted to go out again to chase the Northern Lights and the Milky Way. Since the chances for a clear sky were good, we decided to go and left at around 11 PM.

We had a few spots in mind, but it was more difficult than we thought, as the Northern Lights and the Milky Way were in opposite directions. So we needed a spot that worked well in both directions.

We decided on the well-known place in Raisting, which is west of Starnberg and known for its many huge satellite dishes (presumably from the DLR). The place is actually a bit eerie at night, as it feels like you're in a science fiction movie where aliens might come down any moment, haha.

In any case, the picture showing the Milky Way was taken there. Unfortunately, there were no Northern Lights that night, but we could enjoy the view of our Milky Way even more.

The special (and challenging) thing about night photography:

The later it gets at night, the more beautiful the sky becomes, and the clearer the stars appear.
